Kansas City Photography

My extensive experience as a natural landscape photographer gave me years of successes and failures to learn from. These skills were ideal when put to use obtaining Kansas City pictures. Knowing how to pre-visualize light, map out probable locations, plan shots with intriguing juxtapositions, and more all helped tremendously when I set out to get Kansas City photos that expressed the mood of the city.

When I was in-between nature field work trips, I would spend time working on my Kansas City photography as a nice change of pace. It became a personal challenge to get original compositions with really extraordinary light. Since I lived near the center of the metropolitan area, I could be in many of the Kansas City locations within 10 to 20 minutes, and when the light is at its most compelling, it is also at its most fleeting, so time was of the essence.

Another plus for spending more time with going after Kansas City photos was I didn't have to spend as much time traveling and miss out on being with my young children. Being home to tuck them in at night and take them to school in the morning sure beat being hundreds or thousands of miles away from Kansas City!

Why Kansas City Photos?

Finally, I believe Kansas City is an under appreciated city. Not only do we have a great deal of arts and entertainment opportunities, this is one of the most beautiful cities in the country, but not many people know about it. Having grown up here and spent most of my adult life based here, I have a great deal of civic pride. I hope my Kansas City pictures inspire that same pride in other residents of the city, and that those same pictures of Kansas City help sell the charm of the city to potential first time visitors.
